About Photonmaps

Photonmaps by Guus Vuijk

Guus Vuijk is living in The Netherlands with his family. Working on a professional level, he is practicing photography as a fine art specialising in portrait (people), natural & man-made landscapes (places), and documentary travel photography (projects) throughout all seasons. His major objective is to produce well designed images that offer a personal view on the diversity of life in general, and of natural habitats in particular. Besides shooting single images, Guus Vuijk also creates features for nature conservation organisations. He is holding a Bachelors degree in Public/Business Administration and Information Technology (The Hague, 1985).

His images may be used for many purposes: folders & leaflets, books, and magazines. In The Netherlands and abroad. He is producing commissioned work in close collaboration with his commissioner(s) by interpreting the engagement objectives and challenging it's boundaries. This demanding and creative way of working is transforming your ideas into an unique product and is delivering results with images and texts that take hold and will "stick".

Guus Vuijk is represented by Photonmaps. For more information, commissions/engagements, and image licensing, please contact the photographer using the information on the contact-page.

About photons and their maps
In physics, the photon is an elementary particle, the quantum of the electromagnetic field and thus the basic unit of light and all other forms of electromagnetic radiation. The modern name “photon” derives from the Greek word for light. When the original path of photon particles (light rays) is bent by an intermediate medium (such as a photographic lens) and is trapped in an emulsion or sensor, the pattern of the photons on that exact moment and location in time is captured. This process is creating a single and unique map. And when (re-) projecting this map on a flat surface (print and/or screen), that's the moment when my visible photonmaps (images) can be observed by the individual viewer and will have their impact.
